Happy Birthday Sycamore |

While you are celebrating Sycamore's 150th Anniversary, take a few moments to look back in time. The Sycamore Historical Society and Museum's window display facing State Street is currently featuring a variety of treasures from Sycamore's past. The small exhibit provides a sense of Sycamore through the ages.

Each item provides a short story about our community. One of the largest times is a model of the J.E. Bangs building at 123 Somonauk Street. It was a tin and plumbing business. Photos show the building circa 1920. A metal rough rider case that was mailed to a Sycamore student at the University of Illinois, illustrates a care package from a different era. A trophy from the Sycamore Sons semi-professional baseball team explores some of the entertainment that was available in the past. A desk that would have been common in school rooms a hundred years ago is also featured. It even includes the whole for ink.

"These items are a small sample of our collection. They are all very fun to look at, and help us better understand what our community was like in the past" explained Michelle Donahoe, executive director of the Sycamore Historical Society. "If you like the window display, we hope you come down to the museum to see some more artifacts and discover some more stories about Sycamore."

The Sycamore Historical Society and Museum is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 - 1:00 or by appointment. For more information check their website www.sycamorehistory.org.
