Museum receives Bookshelf Grant

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recently announced the winners of the Connecting to Collections Bookshelf grant, which included the Sycamore Historical Society and Museum.  This project provides small museums and libraries with essentials texts, DVD’s, charts, online resources, and other materials that were carefully selected with the help of experts throughout the nation.

IMLS held a National Conservation Summit in June 2007.  During these meetings, participants exchanged ideas about how to improve the care of their collections by working with outside experts, new technologies, the public, and funding sources.  The Summit launched IMLS’ Connection to Collections: A Call to Action, which included an initiative to supply organizations that have limited resources with materials to better preserve their collections.

“We were very excited to receive this grant and the wonderful materials provided by IMLS,” explained Michelle Donahoe, executive director of the Sycamore Historical Society and Museum.  “Our organization fit the requirements for this grant, but when you are competing at a national level you never know what your chances are to qualify.  The timing is perfect, as we plan our move and think about the best ways to store our collection,“ she continued.
