Pumpkin Fest officially kicked off on Saturday, October 21. This tradition that started in 1956 with some pumpkins on Wally Thurow’s lawn had grown into an amazing community event.
This week has something for everyone ~ a pumpkin decorating contest on the Courthouse lawn (that always showcases impressive talent at all age levels), downtown trick-or-treating, carnival rides, the craft fairs offering unique items and specialty foods, SHM’s Historic Tour of Homes providing an opportunity to go inside some of the homes that would certainly be described as local treasures, the 10K that winds through town, and a wonderful parade that caps off this busy week.
However, even more than all of the fun activities, Pumpkin Fest shows off Sycamore’s spirit. This event does not happen without months and months of planning, numerous meetings, and hundreds of hours dedicated to making Pumpkin Fest a success. Thank you to the Pumpkin Fest Committee, numerous service clubs, and 30 non-profits that all work so hard in making this a memorable event for all.
A special thank you to the home owners, 80+ volunteers, and our talented House Walk Committee who make SHM’s House Walk a wonderful experience every year. Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated!
