SHM’s Thanksgiving Thank Yous
Posted:  November 15, 2017

During this month of November, SHM would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of our supporters. You might not realize you impact, but you are key to our success!

Volunteers – You are amazing! From our youngest fifth grade helpers to those who have been retired for just a “few” years, and all of you in-between – thank you! You take out the garbage; paint and sand walls; help genealogists and other researchers; process donations; create flyers; organize our files; build items for the exhibit; plant, harvest, mulch, and weed our gardens; give tours; sweep; make copies, gather and interpret data; serve tea and scones; bake desserts; solicit items for fund raisers, created videos, and recruit your friends to volunteer. Phew!!

Visitors – Thank you for coming to our programs and exhibits. We saw over 5000 people last year! What a great reward for all of our hard work. These visitors are all ages. We love seeing the littles at our garden story time, the second graders learning about and taking taking pride in our community’s history, as well as the adults and families who attend our walking tours,  Brown Bag lunches and evening programs. We also appreciate our on-line visitors, over 7,000 people last year.

Community Partners – Over 22 of different groups partnered with us – helping spread the word about Sycamore history, but also these relationship provided opportunities for developing leaders, reaching new audiences, and building the capacity of our community. Thank you to the Sycamore School District schools, OSCAR program, Spartan TV; Sycamore Public Library; Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts; DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership; DeKalb County Community Foundation;  Conexion Communidad, University of Illinois’ DeKalb County Master Gardeners and 4-H club, DeKalb County Forest Preserve District, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, City of Sycamore, Joiner History Room,  United Way, Kiwanis, Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, DeKalb County CVB, Children’s Home and Aid Society, and Upstaging to name a few.

Donors – We know you have numerous organizations asking for your financial support. That you selected SHM is greatly appreciated. As a private 501(c)3 non-profit we operate 100% on donations, sponsorships grants. Your gifts make a significant impact in our community!

You all are an important part of how we meet our mission of “Enriching public knowledge of Sycamore for people of all ages.” We are looking forward to another year of engaging our community in its amazing history.
