As we are stuck inside during these winter months, many of us look to trying to get organized. One question we often get at SHM is how best to take care of photographs. These are such important glimpses into some of our favorite memories, we want to make sure that they are preserved to make them last as long as possible.
If this is a type of project you think you finally have time to tackle, below are some helpful links:
National Archives, “How to Preserve Family Papers and Photographs.” archives.gov/preservation/family-archives.
American Library Association: http://www.ala.org/alcts/preservationweek/howto/photos
Library of Congress: https://www.loc.gov/preservation/about/faqs/photographs.html
Library of Congress (about storing digital images): http://digitalpreservation.gov/personalarchiving/padKit/resources.html
Good luck to all and happy organizing!
